Police investigate indecent exposure incident
1 April 09
POLICE in Burnley are appealing for information after a man indecently exposed himself to a schoolgirl.
The incident happened as the 11-year-old girl was walking along Shakespeare Street at
the junction where it meets Stockbridge Road in Padiham at 8.10am today (Wednesday,April 1 2009).
The offender giggled before pulling down his trousers to his ankles. He then approached the youngster while touching himself until she ran away.
The victim has told police that during her walk she noticed a white woman aged about 40 walking behind her and when she ran away she looked and saw the woman cross over so it is possible this woman also witnessed the incident.
The offender is described as white, aged about 20, of average build, of scruffy appearance, and about 5ft5ins to 5ft6ins tall. He had ginger/brown scruffy uncut hair and was wearing a brown, thick, smooth-looking coat which finished at the waistline. The man was described as being drunk and possibly staggering around as he continued to giggle.
Pc Leanne Lyons, from Burnley police, said: “I would urge anyone who saw a man of this description acting suspiciously in the area to contact police as soon as possible.
“The victim was left extremely shaken by this incident and I would appeal for the woman who possibly witnessed what happened to contact officers.”
Anyone with information should contact Pc Leanne Lyons at Burnley police station on 01282 425001 or call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
